Landscape Maintenance and Groundskeeping

Facilities Management is responsible for administering a service contract for the provision of landscaping services including:

  • Mowing
  • Tree trimming
  • Replacing of trees, shrubs and flowers
  • Weed control
  • Irrigation
  • Landscape construction

Please email any service requests to Derek Mahoney (Manager, Landscape and Building Maintenance) and copy facilities.ok@ubc.ca. An Archibus work request is not required because landscaping services are provided by United Irrigation & Landscaping.

The long-term goals of Facilities Management include:

  • Reduce water use
  • Reduce maintenance costs
  • Landscape looks good in all four seasons
  • Landscape is cohesive throughout the campus and reflects a sense of place (by colors, textures and, where possible, use of Okanagan natives)
  • Landscape is suited to the environment – non-native plants are adapted to this climate and non-invasive
  • Create a closed loop waste system so all landscape waste is left to create a natural mulch where it falls or is composted (and chipped, as needed) on campus for re-use on campus
