Landscape Maintenance and Groundskeeping
Facilities Management is responsible for administering a service contract for the provision of landscaping services including:
- Mowing
- Tree trimming
- Replacing of trees, shrubs and flowers
- Weed control
- Irrigation
- Landscape construction
Please email any service requests to Derek Mahoney (Manager, Landscape and Building Maintenance) and copy facilities.ok@ubc.ca. An Archibus work request is not required because landscaping services are provided by United Irrigation & Landscaping.
The long-term goals of Facilities Management include:
- Reduce water use
- Reduce maintenance costs
- Landscape looks good in all four seasons
- Landscape is cohesive throughout the campus and reflects a sense of place (by colors, textures and, where possible, use of Okanagan natives)
- Landscape is suited to the environment – non-native plants are adapted to this climate and non-invasive
- Create a closed loop waste system so all landscape waste is left to create a natural mulch where it falls or is composted (and chipped, as needed) on campus for re-use on campus
